La Merienda Moments With MARS Chocolate’s

I’ve already started some back to school shopping here and there. Yesterday I went to Walmart because this mom is on a budget and back to school shopping can get pretty costly. While I was there I remembered to pick up some MARS Chocolates in our favorite bag Caramel Lovers. I like having a bag of MARS Chocolates Fun Size  around the house for La Merienda. La merienda is a Latin American term for the time between breakfast and lunch or between noon and dinner, where you enjoy a light snack and take a moment to conversate.  This is the time when our family loves to catch up with each others day.

When it’s time for homework, we have found having a homework station makes it uncomplicated. Before we started using a homework station Jon’s pencil would break and of course, there would be no pencil in sight. By the time Jon found one, he would forget what he was even working on. This year we made a more portable homework station that he can move around from his room to anywhere around the house.

Juli couldn’t wait to get started. I think she is almost ready for preschool. You can start assembling your tray however you like.

When Jon is done with his homework he gets to enjoy la merienda and I ask him all about his day. What did he do at school?  What was his favorite part and what was his least favorite part of the day? 

During the weekend for la merienda the kids like to play Loteria which is a Mexican game similar to bingo except with pictures instead of numbers. I can always remember playing it when I was a little girl with my great grandmother and my cousins during the summer. It’s a game we still continue to play during family get together’s except we play for money. When we play Loteria with just the kids they win MARS Chocolates fun size.

Every day I cherish these special moments with Jon and Juli. They will only be kids for so long, then off to college into adulthood. Where hopefully they have these special moments with their children.

Weekend Snaps

Friday we made Chicken Tamales of course Juli was our little helper.

It’s been so hot out the kids have pretty much been swimming every day! How do guys like our new volleyball court we got it at Kmart on clearance for $10 last week.

Saturday we celebrated our Preciosa’s 3rd birthday!

Later that Saturday Julian and I drove to San Jose for two of his close friends birthday celebrations.

These water fountains in front of our Hotel were cool. We need this in downtown Sacramento.

I just thought this was a good snap, my phone accidently took it while we were walking to our hotel. When we got there we noticed there were a lot of people in the front and these huge big red buses. Turned out Manchester United soccer team we’re also staying at the Fairmont. They had played Barcelona at Levi Stadium earlier that day.

 The only shot I was able to snap of my makeup. While we were in the car on the drive to Yard House for dinner. We were running late so we thought, because even though our group had reservations we were seated almost 2 hours later. We didn’t mind we were at the bar and we did have a big group.

After dinner we went to some club in Downtown Mountain View I think it was. This was the only snap I got, besides what I recorded on my SnapChat. It’s been a while since we’ve been to a club, they are really not our thing anymore. It was a lot of fun though must have been because we were with great company.

At the hotel, I fell in love with this headboard. Thinking of a DIY.

Preciosa Turns 3

Our Preciosa turned 3 this past Saturday, she is our very sweet, energetic, salsa dancing Chihuahua mix. We started her special day by going out to Target, where we buy everything for our dogs. I went straight for the pet aisle before I got distracted with all amazing things Target has. You know what I mean, you go in for one thing and come out with a cart full of stuff I know that is not just me.
 I headed for the food section first. I picked Preciosa up a bag of Purina Beneful IncrediBites made with real chicken, accented with carrots, sweet potatoes & spinach. Chicken is her favorite every time we make Arroz Blanco con Pollo, she devours it.

Of course, I had to make a stop in the toy section for our little furry girl. She likes playing fetch and tug of war with her sisters. Even though her younger bigger sister Gisele always wins at tug of war could big she weighs an extra 30lbs. 

When I got home we took her a bath, which she is definitely not a fan of. She could not wait to get out, but she had to be nice and clean for her special day.

 While I dried her up Jon and Juli prepared her surprises outside.

  She went right into her food and her sisters followed right after her.

 Happy Birthday Preciosa! It has been a great three years so far, Jon and Juli love waking up to your morning I need to go outside kisses.

Blueberry Power Muffins

I had bought a huge pack of blueberries last week while I was at Sprouts for $1.99. So besides making smoothies and blueberry pancakes I also wanted to make muffins. I had pinned this recipe a while back and thought of giving it a try. The only thing I changed in the recipe was using different sugar and I also did not have vanilla in the pantry ( I know how can I not have vanilla extract) So I substituted honey instead. They came out delicious and super moist. They were a hit with Jon and Juli as well, Jon liked that as soon as you bite into a blueberry it just bursts in your mouth.
